Now Available – January 2025 revised edition of the GP Pregnancy Care Pregnancy Record (“the Pink Book”)
19 June 2025
Copies of the January 2025 revised edition of the GP Pregnancy Care Pregnancy Record (aka the pink book) are now available from (and funded by) Primary Health Tasmania for GPs statewide to use with their patients when providing antenatal care.
This hand held record is primarily designed to help GPs and GP Registrars (who are invariably the first medical contact in early pregnancy) navigate the time-critical lifestyle advice, screening tests and investigations prior to the booking-in appointment at the local maternity unit as well as being a record and a guide to ongoing antenatal and postnatal care regardless of the model of antenatal care ultimately pursued. It also acts as conversation starter for patients with their GP and provides reliable resources and contact details of support services and helplines.
Numerous changes have been made to the booklet since it was last revised in October 2021 reflecting the ever changing recommendations in pregnancy care, the most significant being CMV screening and treatment of mother and newborn baby, increased syphilis screening, reproductive genetic carrier screening Medicare rebate, vaccinations in pregnancy including the RSV program, preeclampsia and diabetes in pregnancy screening and diagnosis. The hospital maternity services access maps have also been updated.
It is planned in time that this booklet will be available online on the Tasmanian HealthPathways so any subsequent changes to pregnancy care recommendations can be updated as needed between printing revisions of the hard copy of the booklet.
Dr Anne Wilson as editor of this booklet thanks the many GPs, midwives and consumers who kindly reviewed the draft booklet prior to publication. Special thanks to Jacqui Cameron (Midwifery and Nursing Unit Manager Womens+ LGH), Ruth King (Director of Nursing and Midwifery WACS-North West) and Dr Boon Lim (Consultant Obstetrician NWRH) for their valuable input and feedback which was very much appreciated.
