2026 Education Sessions – 3 New Topics announced

3 February 2026

The GP North-funded pharmacotherapeutic education program for GPs, GP Registrars and medical students working in General Practice in northern Tasmania aims to provide up-to-date, unbiased, evidence-based and comprehensive information on topics of particular relevance and interest to family general practice.

Since this education program started in 2021 feedback has been very favourable and each session valued by participants as a self-recorded CPD activity.

GP North is pleased to announce that in 2026 three different topics as listed below will be offered in the education sessions prepared and presented by General Practice Consultant Pharmacist and Educator Danielle Truscott.

TOPIC 1: Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) – Corticosteroids
This session will cover the new asthma management guidelines (September 2024), ICS in COPD, INCS for rhinitis, oral corticosteroid cessation protocols, the role of moisturisers with topical corticosteroids, and safe use of corticosteroid eye drops.

TOPIC 2: ADHD – psychostimulants and non-stimulants – prescribing and monitoring

TOPIC 3: Better safer pharmacotherapy for 5 common conditions
This session will cover the latest in restless legs syndrome management, cramp prophylaxis, vitamin B6 toxicity, medication overuse headache, dry eye disease and ocular lubricants, and sick day management plans for medication.

We invite and encourage you to book a session at your practice for each of the three topics in 2026.

Each 1-hour education session occurs during working hours on weekdays at General Practice rooms. It is preferable to have at least three GPs attending each session but if this is an issue for your practice, please contact GP North to negotiate a suitable alternative arrangement. To book an education session please contact Mrs Kelly Gregory, GP North Administration Manager, by email officegpnorth@gmail.com
